A ski weekend, a week of electric mountain biking, or simply a night before an early hike on the Cheiron: sleeping on site completely changes the Gréolières experience. You are on the slopes at opening, you get the evening light on the ridges, and you do not spend two hours a day on the road.

Because that is the paradox of the resort: it is only about an hour from Nice and Cannes, which makes it the closest ski resort to the French Riviera, so many visitors come just for the day. But accommodation does exist, at the resort as well as in the village below, and it deserves to be known. Here is what you need to choose knowingly.

Understand the geography before booking

Gréolières means two distinct places, fifteen minutes of road apart:

Gréolières-les-Neiges, the resort, between 1,400 and 1,800 m in the Cheiron massif. That is where the lifts, the snow front, the Gréo’Parc and our shop are.
The village of Gréolières, perched at around 830 m, an old stone village with its lanes, its squares and its castle ruins.

Sleeping at the resort means immediacy: you click in outside the door. Sleeping in the village means more charm, more choice of accommodation, often gentler rates — but a mountain road to drive every morning, worth anticipating on snowy days.

Sleeping at the resort, at the foot of the slopes

L’Auberge Alpina

This is the snow-front inn, which also operates as a group gîte, with up to 40 beds. A good solution for large families, groups of friends, clubs or school groups who want everyone in one place.

Privately owned studios and flats

By volume this is the resort’s main offer: numerous studios and flats owned by private individuals are rented by the night or by the week, often two minutes’ walk from the lifts. You will find them on the usual rental platforms, and in the “meublés” section of the official resort website.

By motorhome

The resort is equipped for it, and this is a genuine feature of Gréolières:

a service area with water and waste disposal, card payment, count on €4 to €6 for 20 minutes. Note: no electrical hook-up on the area, so you need to be self-sufficient;
a free parking zone with around 50 spaces, with a view of the slopes, limited to 7 consecutive days.

Sleeping facing the ski area without paying for a night, waking up at the foot of the lifts: it is hard to be more direct. Simply plan for sufficient electrical autonomy and good heating equipment — at 1,400 m, the nights are cool even outside the winter season.

Staying nearby

When the resort and the village are full — which happens during the winter school holidays and the long February weekends — widen the circle. The neighbouring communes offer real fallback options, 20 to 30 minutes’ drive away.

Coursegoules (25 km): the municipal gîtes de l’Escaou, Côté Chapelle, the guest house l’Authentique, and the Auberge Gorges du Loup.
Cipières: the “Lavande” stopover gîte, made for walkers passing on the GR4 and GR51.
Andon and Thorenc: the Auberge de Thorenc, Les Merisiers B&B, the Auberge de la Forêt.

These addresses have another advantage: they bring you closer to other playgrounds, notably the Loup gorges, to combine with a day at the resort.

When to book?

The Gréolières calendar is very pronounced. A few markers so you are not left without a solution:

February holidays and weekends from January to March: this is the tightest period. Book several weeks ahead, more if you are looking for a large property or a group gîte.
July-August: occupancy is good but the offer is wider, because the village accommodation is running at full capacity. Two to four weeks ahead is generally enough.
Spring and autumn: the quietest season, and often the most pleasant for hiking — think of the peony loop. Just check the opening periods, as some addresses only operate part of the year.

One final methodological point: the rates and opening periods given here are those of independent businesses and are liable to change. A direct call remains the best way to confirm a price, a capacity or a date.

What to pack

Warm clothes, even in summer. At 1,400 m, evenings drop considerably lower than by the sea.
Chains or winter tyres between December and March. The road up to the resort is beautiful, but it is a mountain road.
Something to cook or picnic with if you are staying in self-catering: shops are few, so it is better to come up with the essentials.
Not your sports equipment — and that is precisely the next point.

The right reflex: travel light

Staying at the resort or in the village? No need to load the car with skis, helmets or bikes. Bogho Sports is on site, at 310 Traverse du Cheiron, open 7 days a week from 9 am to 5 pm, two minutes’ walk from most of the resort’s accommodation.

You will find the full range there, from the adult ski pack with helmet to sledges at €10, snowshoes at €11 and children’s skis from €13 a day. In summer, electric mountain bikes take over, at €40 for a half-day for an adult.
